Time to light the candles

Chanukah, the festival of lights which marks the beginning of a meaningful 8-day event that celebrates the triumph of light over darkness, of purity over adulteration, of spirituality over materialism.

Chanukah Sameach to all dear Yehudi friends ~ may your life be filled with sweet miraculous events for you to remember by!

With much love in all its honesty,

Thoughts: Fooling Around

As we age and live life with all it has to offer, whether we like it or not, to experience different sensations that compels one to grow, and thereafter becomes an act of impelling oneself through what has been learnt. We build our own set of beliefs by learning from our own history and mostly through the history of others and life.

Very so often, we are inspired by another who has lived through life in their own right. We connect with their thoughts, their ideas, their beliefs. And we as interconnected beings, continue to spread this light in the world of darkness.

One of the many things I belief is being true to oneself.
It’s a form of self-respect ~ with it, it helps us to keep check of our own actions, because what we do affects another entity. We should be true to oneself and in that, it ripples out with how you act, think, and behave. But at the same time, we should not be callous with our words and actions.

I find the following words spoken by 1Rabbi Shalom DovBer of Lubavitch who told his son before his 2bar mitzvah one of life’s fundamentals of being a responsible adult in a nutshell.

“Three things you must know to be an adult:
1. Don’t fool yourself
2. Don’t fool others
3. Don’t let others fool you
– and do it all without trying to impress anybody.”

Have yourselves a wonderful and fulfilling weekend with your loved ones!
XO JR ❤

Gradual Truth

In life, you don’t get all the answers at once.

First you must absorb and live with one simple truth. Then later you must find another truth - one that may seem to conflict with and negate all you previously learned. Then, from that confusion, emerges a higher truth - the inner light behind all you had learned before.

Marriage as Microcosm

Marriage is a microcosm of the soul’s descent into this world:
If you are here looking for what you can get out of this world, then the world and all its trappings will only drag you down.
But if you are looking for what you can give, then you, your part of the world, and your soul, all are uplifted and filled with light.

So too, when you enter marriage:
Look for what you can give, and reap harmony and love.

Marital Blessing

The blessings a man receives, according to our sages, are not for himself, but for his wife and on her account.

And so, they said,
“Honour your wife so you may become wealthy.”

Flattening the Ride

When business is down, envision yourself tomorrow, when all the efforts of today have succeeded and you sit before a table set with all your needs.

When business is up, pray for your livelihood at every moment, as a beggar prays for his daily bread.

For everything is in His hands.

Journeys

The Baal Shem Tov taught that each of our lives is comprised of 42 journeys, corresponding to the 42 journeys of the Children of Israel in the wilderness.

Some of those journeys have pleasant names. Others don’t sound so nice. But none are inherently bad. It is only that you may have to dig deeper and deeper to find the purpose and the good within them.

A Time for Silence

A parable:

A father answers the questions of his child and they are happy together, in joyful dialogue.

Then the child asks a question, and the father must think deeply - not just for the answer, but to reach to the essence of this answer so he may bring it to the world of his child. For the long while, the father is quiet.

And so, the child becomes anxious and begins to cry.
“Father, where are you? Why do you no longer talk to me? Why have you deserted me for your own thoughts?”

And then the father begins to speak, but this time it is the deepest core of his mind that flows into the mind and heart of the child. Such a flow with this the child, too, may become a father.

The child is us. The time of silence is now.

When the spirit of Man is dark, when the flow gates of Above seem all but sealed, prepare for liberation.
